What can I do right after the conference?
You can take the Coast-down Tool home, install it on Windows or macOS, and perform wind-corrected coast-down analyses with your own datasets.
Do I need hardware to use the Coast-down Tool?
No, not for accessing the tool during the conference. Hardware is needed if you want to measure the vehicle-local wind on your own vehicle during future tests.
What is the crucial additional channel?
The vehicle-local wind: The apparent wind speed and direction where the airflow acts, synchronized with your test data.
Why not just use a weather station?
A stationary value cannot accurately describe a moving vehicle. The vehicle-local measurement captures the entire distance, resolves speed and yaw angle, and directly links the wind to the vehicle's response.
Do opposing driving directions cancel out the wind?
Not reliably. The apparent flow is crucial for aerodynamic drag, and the true wind alters the conditions for the apparent speed and yaw angle.
